The Catalan region of Penedès near Barcelona has its own character. Here, between the Mediterranean coast and the mountains, wines and cavas of excellent quality have been produced for centuries.
Penedès is considered the cradle of modern Spanish viticulture. Centuries ago, it was mainly known for its red wines, but since the production of cava, white grapes have increasingly gained the upper hand. Nowadays about 2/3 is planted with white grapes.
Cava is produced according to the méthode traditionelle adopted from Champagne.
There are many cava and wineries in this area, from large to small, where the owner still manually turns the bottles every day!
Stay in the middle of the vineyards or on the coast in Sitges to combine sea & wine.
