Discover Southern Catalunya during a road trip

Discover  Southern Catalonia

While many visitors stay in the north, the south of Catalonia holds the region's most authentic secrets. Journey through the legendary vineyards of Penedès, famous for its sparkling Cavas, and the rugged, world-renowned slopes of Priorat. For those seeking a true hidden gem, we take you further to Terra Alta, where the wine culture is as high-altitude as it is untouched by time.

Beyond the vines, Southern Catalonia reveals a breathtaking mosaic of landscapes and history

- The Ebro Delta: Immerse yourself in a Mediterranean wilderness. This vast nature reserve is a sanctuary for unique flora and fauna—most notably its iconic flamingo colonies—making it a paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers.

- Spiritual Grandeur: Visit the Monastery of Poblet, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a masterpiece of Cistercian architecture.

 - City & Village Life: Explore the Roman echoes of coastal Tarragona, the elegant Modernist streets of Reus, or the gravity-defying clifftop village of Siurana, often cited as the most beautiful village in the country.

Discover Penedès & Priorat

A 5-day journey from Modernist elegance to rugged terroir

This extended journey takes you from the sophisticated, artistic heart of Vilafranca del Penedès to the dramatic, vertical vineyards of Priorat. While Penedès is defined by the light, bubbles, and architectural flair of Modernism, Priorat is a land of silence, steep slate hills, and some of the world’s most powerful red wines.

Experience the architectural soul of Catalonia through this journey into the Penedès wine region. This journey celebrates Catalan Modernism—the local evolution of Art Nouveau and Jugendstil—most famously embodied by Gaudí, but reaching its industrial peak in the wineries and manor houses of the wine country.

Mercer Hotel Casa Torner i Güell, nestled in the heart of Vilafranca del Penedès, is a masterpiece of early 20th-century architecture. This boutique hotel seamlessly blends sleek, contemporary interiors with the sophisticated bones of a historic Modernist building. Expect high ceilings, quality wood floors, and eye-catching designer furniture in a space bathed in natural light.

Discover in Vilafranca del Penedès, the historic capital of wine, its hidden Modernist gems following the Modernist route. Vilafranca is the home of three Castellers (human tower) groups. Depending on the season, we will arrange for you to witness the breathtaking strength and balance of these groups during a live performance or an intimate rehearsal session.

Just outside Sant Sadurni d'Anoia, capital of cava, your will find the bodegas of Codorníu. Step into history at the "Cathedral of Cava," the modernist masterpiece designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch and a declared National Monument. Your journey through the Codorníu family legacy—dating back to 1551—takes you from the serene beauty of the winery gardens deep into the subterranean caves of the late 19th century. After exploring these vast underground galleries by train and learning the secrets of the traditional method, you will conclude your visit with a refined tasting of three premium cavas paired exquisitely with artisanal chocolates.

Cavas Bolet is a small family winery with the family farmhouse, a stunning 1619 structure renovated in the Modernist style. You will tour the private museum of ancestral winemaking tools and the family cellars.

Conclude your visit with a traditional Catalan tapas brunch, perfectly paired with three of the estate’s organic wines and cavas.

The next part of your journey leads you into the Priorat. The rugged, volcanic landscape and intense reds of Priorat offer a striking contrast to the elegant whites and sparkling cavas of Penedès.

Ora Hotel Priorat seamlessly blends the charm of yesteryear with modern comfort. Housed in the historic abbey of Torroja del Priorat, this 18th-century building has been transformed into a stylish boutique hotel. It is a magnificent retreat where you can immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes, exceptional wines, and authentic gastronomy of the Priorat wine region.

Not far from Torroja del Priorat lies the Cartoixa d'Escaladei (the Carthusian Monastery of the Stairway to God), a mystical site at the foot of the Sierra de Montsant. Founded in the 12th century, it was the first Carthusian monastery on the Iberian Peninsula and the primary driving force behind the region's development. Over the centuries, the complex grew into an impressive center of art and culture, featuring three cloisters and a majestic church. Today, the monastery is a protected monument that has been beautifully restored.

We largely owe the current world-renowned status of Priorat wine to the monks of Escaladei. The small village of Escaladei, located right next to the monastery, is now the perfect place for a wine tasting to experience the monks' legacy for yourself.
